Lizards' Requirements for Light
MomoLizards are very clean pets, and in recent years, more and more people have been keeping lizards. The success of raising lizards depends on the arrangement of their living environment. Lizards in the wild mainly live in desert areas, so they have certain requirements for temperature and light
1、 Heating and Lighting
Many people solve both heating and lighting problems simultaneously. Heating with incandescent bulbs can also provide illumination. As long as the lamp is installed at one corner of the box, it can create an environment with temperature transition changes inside the box. Lizards have a small nest directly below the lamp, similar to sunbathing, and can quickly warm up in the morning. And it is best to place thermometers at different positions in the feeding box to monitor the temperature of the entire box. Even the coldest time in the box is around 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Generally speaking, lizards need to maintain an internal temperature of 88 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 10 hours a day to ensure their normal digestive function. It is best not to put the lamp directly inside the box, as this can make lizards easily climb on the lamp and cause burns. Lizards rely on bacteria in their bodies to digest food, and bacteria require a relatively high temperature environment to function, so it is necessary to ensure sufficient temperature, otherwise lizards will suffer from malnutrition due to indigestion.
2、 Ultraviolet radiation
It is very important to expose lizards to ultraviolet radiation. They need to synthesize vitamin D3 in the skin by irradiating ultraviolet rays, and D3 promotes calcium absorption. Sunlight is the best choice, and if it is impossible to get sunlight, then ultraviolet lamps (especially UVB lamps) must be prepared for them. It should be noted that do not expose your lizard to ultraviolet light through glass or organic glass, as these substances have a strong attenuation effect on ultraviolet light. A thin layer of glass can remove 95% of ultraviolet light. Don't look at UV lamps with your eyes, because too strong UV rays are harmful to people.
3、 Light cycle
Simply put, photoperiod refers to the amount of time lizards need to bathe in light every day. It is usually recommended to bathe them in light and ultraviolet radiation for 14 hours every day. But it is necessary to ensure a dark and unlit night. If the light is on for a long time, it will make the lizard nervous.
