Checking potential lymph nodes is of great significance in determining whether a dog is infected or diagnosing certain infectious diseases. The main function of lymph nodes is antibacterial. Once there is a problem with the lymph nodes, dogs are easily susceptible to the harm of some viruses. Lymph nodes that can be checked regularly include mandibular lymph nodes, lymph nodes under the ear and around the throat, cervical lymph nodes, shoulder lymph nodes, and so on.

1、 Related examination methods for lymph nodes

Generally, visual and palpation methods can be used for judgment, and if necessary, puncture method can also be used for judgment. When conducting visual and palpation examinations of potential lymph nodes, the main attention should be paid to their location, hardness, shape, size, surface condition, sensitivity, and mobility.

2、 Pathological changes in lymph nodes

The main manifestations can be divided into acute or chronic swelling, and some may show a tendency towards suppuration.

1. Acute swelling: usually presents with significant swelling, smooth surface, and accompanied by obvious heat and pain reactions. Acute swelling of lymph nodes is commonly seen in acute infections of surrounding tissues and organs.

2. Chronic swelling: Generally presents as swelling, hardening, uneven surface, without any related reactions such as heat or pain, and most of them have adhesion with surrounding tissues, making it difficult to move. Chronic swelling of lymph nodes can be observed in the early stages of canine lymphadenopathy, where the surface lymph nodes of the body undergo painless and painless chronic swelling. In addition, chronic swelling of lymph nodes can also be seen in various surrounding tissues, organs, chronic infections, and inflammation of lymph nodes.

3. Lymph node suppuration: This problem can cause swelling, heat sensation, and pain reactions, as well as significant fluctuations during palpation. To improve this issue, it may be necessary to perform puncture treatment, remove the purulent contents inside, and then perform anti-inflammatory treatment. However, the puncture method is not a casual operation and requires experienced personnel to handle it. If the owner finds that the dog has purulent lymph node enlargement, do not attempt to puncture it easily to avoid unnecessary harm to the dog and increase the severity of the problem.
